Follow Your Personalized Recommendations

Important: Always apply fertilizers according to label instructions

Your soil test indicates, on a yearly basis

per 100 sq. feet:

Nitrogen (0.1 to 0.2 lb) is needed

• Phosphate (0.53 lb) is needed

• Potassium (0.54 lb) is needed

See below for more information on each

Part 1: Sulfur recommendation for pH > 7.75

Your fertilizer recommendations depend on your answers to the following questions

  1. Do trees/shrubs have normal color and growth?
    1. Yes: Do not fertilize
    2. No: Go to 2.

  2. What type of plant are you testing?
    1. Acid loving plant (azalea, rhododendron, blue hydrangea)
      • Add 5 lb sulfur/100 sq ft
    2. pH sensitive tree ([photohint:2]pin oak[/photohint], [photohint:3]red maple[/photohint], [photohint:1]conifer[/photohint])
      • Add 3 1/2 lb sulfur/100 sq ft
    3. None/any of the above.  See nitrogen recommendation below.

The following are typical fertilizers that can be used to satisfy the nutrient requirements of your garden. If the particular fertilizer is not available, choose a fertilizer close to the prescribed fertilizer and use the Fertilizer Calculator to determine how much nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium the fertilizer you choose applies.

Part 1: Nitrogen recommendation

Add 0.1 - 0.2 lb N/100 sq ft (for example:  1/4 to 1/2 lb 46-0-0 (urea nitrogen) or 1 1/4 to 2 1/2 lb 9-0-0 fertilizer per 100 sq ft.

Part 2: Phosphorus Low (< 13 ppm)

Recommended Phosphorus application per 100 sq ft

  • Apply 2.64 lb 0-20-0
  •
  • OR
  •
  • Apply 1.16 lb 0-46-0 (Triple Super Phosphate - TSP)

Part 3: Potassium (K < 198 ppm)

Recommended Potassium application per 100 sq ft

  • Apply 2.18  lb 0-0-25
  •
  • OR
  •
  • Apply 0.93 lb 0-0-60 (Potash)

Organic Matter Recommendation

Organic matter in your soil is 4.4 % . Your soil has an adequate level of organic matter and no further actions need to be taken. Mulching tree and shrubs with 2-3" of organic mulches can help maintain soil organic matter.

Lime recommendation for mineral soils

For non acid loving plants soil pH is good, no adjustment necessary.

Fertilizer Application Notes

Use slow release nitrogen sources (at least 50% water insoluble nitrogen (WIN))

Notes:

1/10th pound of fertilizer = approximately 1/4 cup

Timing of Fertilizer Application:

Preferred time: fall after first hard freeze

Or next-best time (split applications): early spring, fall (after a hard freeze)

Or least preferred time:  early spring
